Sometimes it just isn't your day. All corrupt homicide detective Sung Woo (Park Joong Hoon of Two Cops and Nowhere To Hide) wanted was another night collecting easy money at a room salon, but first his partner is killed, and then he ends up becoming the most unlikely of hostages. Su Hyeon (Chun Jeong Myung) doesn't have it much better. After getting out of his gang, he tries to lead a decent life, but gets falsely accused of murder and lands in prison. When Su Hyeon breaks out of jail, his hostage ends up being none other than Sung Woo. Although they start out as antagonists, the two end up building a strange partnership.
Director Jo Min Ho has been working in the industry since the early 90s, when he was assistant director for troubled productions like No Emergency Exit and small classics like A Hot Roof. It took him almost a decade to debut with a feature film, the 2002 gangster comedy Jungle Juice starring Lee Bum Soo and Jang Hyuk. His new film, Les Formidables, takes some of the elements at work on his previous films, along with the rivals-become-partners sensibility which made Two Cops a smash hit in the early 90s. Jo recruited the talents of top star Park Joong Hoon and Chun Jeong Myung of Fashion Seventies and the fantastic Goodbye Solo, one of the industry's most promising young faces.

Su-hyun wants to leave the syndicate and opens a small restaurant. Helping his life-long friend from an orphanage, he gets arrested for a murder that he didn't commit. To catch the real killer, he hurts himself in prison and is transported to the hospital. Sung-woo is a homicide detective. His wife has left him, and his son's life is in jeopardy. He can't afford to pay the hospital bills, not to mention the liver transplant needed to save his son's life. To make matters worse, he gets reprimanded at work for walking out on his undercover post, which led to the death of his partner. Having gotten drunk out of guilt, he creates a scene at the funeral for his late colleague and gets kicked out, only to end up becoming a hostage of a jail breaker, Su-hyun.
